Agreed, it's a good setup, but I think it's best suited to the modern Easy-Up hoods as they have the pram-style folding rails providing a bit of longitudinal stiffness.

I have a Simmonds hood, which like the trad hood has no longitudinal bracing at all, and as a result when you drive without widescreens, the hood buffets alarmingly at any speed over about 40 mph, so much so that I worry about the stresses on the screen.
