Second run out was much better. Changed the fuel filter and turned the idle adjusting screw to 2 turns out. No exhaust pops on overrun and the car now has some acceleration which it didn't with the old jetting.
Prior to those adjustments I got the wife to hang out the back and catch a few of those "pops" in a jar (thanks for the suggestion). I'm going to keep that next to my jar of official Lucas electrical smoke. If I keep them for a few years the value will go up. People pay a premium for "vintage" stuff!
