Worth checking fuses because I think the main lighting and the flasher are on different ones??

Not according to wiring diagrams for that year K. As I understand it dipped beam, which shares same fuse still works although one diagram for that year shows no headlamp fusing at all!
Note that headlamp beam control stalks work in one of two ways Paul. Toggle or forwards and backwards. It confuses the hell out of me when I swap from Mini to Mog.
