I think you hit the nail on the head Alistair in terms of our emotional involvement with a vehicle and the length of time we care to hold on to it.
I do really appreciate high quality engineering, which is one of the reasons after quite a few years of hands-on experience of old Brit sports cars I ended up as a Porsche enthusiast. By the time I was ready to dig deep to buy a Morgan, I was fortunate to have been well educated by those on the MSCC DG and eMog as to the realities of Morgan ownership both old and new....Thus I accepted that my expectations of design and build quality would have to be readjusted from that of Porsche (air cooled) for me to become happy in terms of cost benefit analysis of living with a Morgan.
I feel fortunate over the years to have learned through the experiences of others both good and not so good as to their expectations of Morgans compared to robotically constructed new vehicles in a similar price range, thus it seems there may be a lack of appreciation as to the variables involved..?
Bottom line for me is that after 20 years and a tad under 30k miles in my Morgan, despite that it does not fit my motoring requirements as it did for the younger and fitter man I once was, it still sits in my garage alongside it`s supposed replacement....In my defence I did fire it up and enjoyed a few all too short miles last weekend.. Ale 72, your Morgan is a thing of beauty and in such a spectacular colour that finding something to take it`s place would seem close to impossible. Also many thanks for the wonderful images that you have posted of it on TM..
