There's nothing more maddening than seeing a link to an article, and only being able to read the first - teasing - paragraph.

The way it works is that publications want users to find them on Google, so let Google see a cached copy:
https://12ft.io/ gets that & shares it.
Ethically, I'm OK with reading an occasional article this way - like a student not needing permission to photocopy an article for research.
If we want writers to keep writing they need to be paid, so I register/like/subscribe when I find an author I like - eg
