Very sad for everyone involved but I'm guessing he wasn't wearing a crash helmet? If they were hooning around in the Super3 for the cameras then this should have been a minimum safety provision. Remember how close Tiff Needell came to turning over a 5-Speeder when 'testing the limits' for Fifth Gear?
