The best Loti IMHO are the ones which remain closest to Colin Chapman's philosophy - light weight before all else, and then it doesn't really matter all that much if it ain't that powerful. For this reason I think the large engined rip-offs of the seven are the least charming variants. It's also why I rate the Elise so much - a car that CABC would have been truly proud of. So light and simple that even with it's modest power plants it was one of the finest sports cars of it's generation. If Lotus are to survive they'd be best advised to keep it light, simple & affordable. Lotus were almost bankrupted before by trying to go upmarket, TVR too. If it's cheap & fun, the punters don't mind too much if bits fall off. Once the price starts getting to BMW M3 or Porsche territory they become much less forgiving.... I couldn't agree more...
