Some time ago my gearknob was moving and turning.
After lifting the secret how it‘s fixed I fix it. But now, after one year and about 5000 miles it was moving and turning to.
So, again. Undo the lower lockring and undo the „outer gearknob“. Than there three small hexnuts visible. Undo them to, but only so far you can undo the „inner gearknob“. Now you realize way a MOG is so expensive. There is a „spacer/ reducer“ tube inside. But one of a nonsence art. The outer diameter fits nearly and it must be fixed with the hexscrews. The inner hole is designed as a triangle.
So only three small points fix the gearknob to the lever. It‘s clear, this construction will never work endless. And if it was once loosen, it will get loose in a short time again.
To solve the problem it would be help to change the inner plastic against something in better quality. Like a nylon or wooden bush. Outer diameter 15mm, inner diameter about 9mm. Or cut a M10x1 or M10x1,25 thread inside. Both are used at Mazda Gearknobs.
But I want to drive the day. No time to look or build a matching bush.
So I found a fuelhose. Outer diameter 10mm, inner diameter 8mm. There are also similar tube for „Aquaristk“. About 3cm -4cm I put inside the spacer and screw the „inner gearknob“ with the help of the „outer gearknob“ and a little powerful pressure on the gearlever. Stop turning when it’s screwed full down and the gearknob shows in the right Direktion. But don‘t forget to slip the lower lockring on the gearlever first.
Than undo the the „outer gearknob and fix the hexnuts in the usual way. Than fix the outer gearknob with the lockring.
This will work very well and in the time you enjoy the now well shifting MOG you can look out for a better „inner spacer“ like a Nylon or wooden bush. If you need it one day.
