Hi JJW, are you sure there is no split in the bump stop? I have KONIs on my 4/4 and have adjusted them OK. Push the rubber bump stop down the shaft, well clear of the top dust cover using a screw driver, or some other rod, through the two holes in the dust cover (clearly showing in your original pic). The worst part of the job is actually removing the units, particularly from the rear axle, as there is very little clearance. Just double check you have both shocks on each axle adjusted to the same degree before you refit them!!! (I still have the instruction sheet from KONI- I could email it to you, if you like.
