For what it's worth, this late in the day, my 'Brooklands' had an 8mm hole in the drive belt when I purchased it five years ago. The MOT inspector draws my attention to it every year but it hasn't increased in size or caused any problems. So I agree with Stevo; ignore it. (but it won't go away!)
