Fortunately my car is at home in a garage. I only realised the problem when I tried to start it, and it didn’t. There wasn’t the usual short hum of the pump priming before starting. Further investigation showed the overheated wires.
I would welcome the instructions on how to fix this myself.
I will try sorting the melted wiring over the weekend.
