My old'76 could take a bit of cranking to start after standing for a few weeks. Put down to fuel draining back from the mechanical pump. If you fit an electric pump you will also need a pressure regulator. With the delayed start at least there was plenty of oil circulating through the engine.

Not necessarily...I run a Facet Posiflow on my 4/4, no regulator needed.
Facet Gold Top/Silver Top are complely different story though!
