It lacks the romance of driving it home but borrowing a trailer and picking it up, then back via Santander would minimise the number of potentially niggly borders to cross.
The 'transporter going out empty' option is good too ... I've shifted some big stuff cheap using 'return loads' ..... the problem might be that with the number of borders to cross they might be wary of taking on an oddball job for fear of being held up by overzealous customs somewhere.
