I have also now found a local locksmith who thinks he can fix the barrel, I await the quote.
With my baseball cap reversed & in grand theft auto mode I turned the car on with a screwdriver. It starts & it all works but the little red padlock keeps flashing. So I don't know what that does apart from a warm feeling.
With the key balanced on the immobiliser sensor & my trusty screwdriver the car starts & the pad lock goes away.
