180 degree Rear-wheel tyre valve

Could not find on TM another thread about the rear wheel valve.

Working on the rear wheel.
I found that the tyre valve was placed very near to the main drive sprocket.

It is nearly impossible to fill the tyre with air without bending the valve.
These valves are standard made from rubber and you cannot bend them too often.
When something comes in between the belt and the sprocket – for me that were wooden sticks in Spain – you can easily damage that valve.
Another thing is that I made an extra dashboard where I can control a lot of things the ECU will not tell me.
On this extra dash I made – besides the gauges of other sensors - a TPMS ‘tyre pressure and tyre temperature gauge’ with external sensors on the valves.
I did not want a sensor inside the rim, but an external rear wheel sensor - which I simply have to screw upon the valve – could not be installed. No space.

I bought on Amazon.fr an aluminum 90 degrees connection directly connected on the rim and another more slowly bend 90 degrees extension.
I fixed the two together very tight and covered it with transparent heat shrink tube.
After that I covered the straight parts with thicker black adhesive shrink tubes.
I have now a nicely 90 degrees bend valve of metal. Well protected with rubber against debris and other stuff.
And I do have now the possibility to connect my external TPMS sensor and / or bring my tyre more easily under pressure.

Installing was a little difficult because the thread of the 90 degree piece on the rim was too short.
And it is delivered with two rubber seals. You need both of them. I supposed installing the seals should be at each side of the rim, but that was impossible. Finally I found the solution to use both seals at the outer side and used a little red ‘Loctite’ to secure the nut inside the rim.
I was not able to use a washer to protect the rim at the inside better.
A larger thread inside the rim by the 90-degree-rim-piece has the disadvantage that is more difficult to get the tyre around it, but still a next time I would choose for a longer thread and cut it properly to the length of the nut.

BTW, Breaking the front tyre from the rim was easily done.
With a floor-jack I lifted my beloved VW T3.
I shove the rear tyre – not the rim - under an aft tyre of the T3 and let the floor jack go down.

TPMS
When interested : I use this TPMS now a year.
The left under aft-wheel sensor will not be displayed.
When you want to tow a 2-wheel motor-bike-baggage trailer behind the M3W, you can control both of those tyres too 😉. It can handle 5 tyres.
Works fine but not that well with sunlight, but you – mostly your navigator - are looking only ones in a while or when you feel something strange.
