My personal gaiters are in two layers. An inner flexible leather gaiter, over which I use my standard mohair gaiters. Each is secured using sewn on velcro with the overlap facing rearwards. After many years and a lot of adverse weather, an occasional removal shows no ingress of either water or road grit.
