I am not a computer guru, I get very frustrated with computer stuff, but have decided to give it a try, as my nearest Morgan dealer is an aggravating two hour one way drive.
I am in the U.S. I have a 2014 5 Speeder. Earlier this season the “Check Engine” light would occasionally flicker on while the engine was idling, but now it is on constantly at any engine RPM. If I turn on the ignition switch, don’t start the motor, everything goes as normal at first; the check engine light comes on, goes out after a few seconds, but then comes back on and stays on after about 10 more seconds, even though the motor hasn’t been started. If I start the motor, the check engine light stays on continuously. The engine is completely stock and runs normally.
I am a reasonably experienced aircraft mechanic and would like to trouble-shoot this myself, but I am completely new to OBD. Any guidance from someone familiar with the 5 Speeder after market OBD process would be greatly appreciated.
I am an Apple, IOS person. I do not have a Windows computer.
QUESTIONS
1. Where is the OBD port located on a 2014 5 Speeder?
2. Recommended OBD reader, $150 or less range? Yes, I will read the instructions that hopefully come with it.
3. I don't know what the codes from the OBD detector mean. Hopefully they will be explained in the instructions.
4. I think there is a “special” adapter cable needed to connect the OBD reader to the 5 Speeder OBD port. Info please?
Any experienced guidance is appreciated.
