I know this is a risky comment, but personally I think this is quite sad

I've got no great problem with shutting down coal-fired power stations, but the Port Talbot shutdown is a tragedy - not least because if there had been a decent bit of strategic planning at Tata (and the Government) this would have been foreseen and been planned for. Converting to electrical-fired steel furnaces should have been started long ago, along with training and coaching the workforce.

The idea that the UK should no longer produce domestic steel is just plain bonkers. We have enormous economic opportunities to exploit green technologies and yet we seem to be content to piss it all away.
