Interesting comments. I have often wondered about them though the initial comparisons with Lotus on launch werent that favourable. Likely there have been major updates since then and in any case they are in a field of one since Lotus have stupidly surrendered their market niche. 350 bhp sounds good - my Ferrari only has 400 and thats assuming it is near "as new" output at 22 years old - a bit unlikely IMO.
I doubt there is anything inherently wrong with French build quality - certainly that of my wife's Smart Roadster has been fault free for 18 years. The problems if any are more likely to be Renault who have never made quality cars.
How much are they? Heavens - I have just looked and even high mileage ones are well into the 30s!! Mind you none of them are soft top so that rules them out for me. For my generation, grown up with Spridgets, TRs etc, cars have to be open to be a "sports car". Hard tops = GT.
