Yes the issue can be with the black nylon follower shown below with other relevant parts after disassembly.

The slotted follower can expand and jam in the nut. Mine was just becoming tight so I reduced it slightly with abrasive paper before re-assembly and adjustment. Much calmer steering afterwards.

Note other owners have complained of over lively steering and/or steering wheel shimmy especially after removing damper blades and fitting steering bearings, as OE on later cars. Cures have varied between retaining damper blades or even installing a steering damper which may have just hidden the issue of a loose rack thinking
