Thank you both for taking the time to respond.
John, yes the info you refer to in the "handbook" corresponds with mine also, re engine model and plug part no., the plugs were not the issue, but identifying the correct leads to suit this particular model of engine.
As I refered to previously, I am not sure if this variation of engine was ever supplied into Australian assembled cars, ie Laser etc and may well have been Mazda sourced componentry but rebadged Ford.
The first set of leads we sourced had larger diameter boots and could not be pushed into the plug tube, but good news is we have found a set that seems to be ok. My only concern is if they are a loose fit we can end up with the situation that Bob has shown in his post (water down the tube)
. A google search of UK sites has shown a few sources of supply and now I have the old ones, can do an accurate dimensional measurement and cross reference before I make an order.
I did come across that web site in my searches and was amazed as to the number of variants of engine over the years, but all seem to relate to European supplied cars.
Again, many thanks for your input, safe motoring and Morganing.
Regards
Ross
All Duratec engines suffer from water ingress in Morgans, its a well known unfortunate feature and many people have sourced or made a shield to deflect any water ingress from the bonnet louvers etc. My spark plugs when they were removed recently had clear water marks well up the spark plug isolator body, clearly indicating they had been well submerged in water for some time.
At least you have tracked down a foreign source for spare parts, just unfortunate there may not be many local Australian suppliers whether it be Ford or Mazda One aspect of the handbook which may not be correct as they may be older handbooks. the gearbox referred to in my handbook is a Ford gearbox, where mine has the Mazda gearbox. Yours most likely is a Mazda gearbox too.
