It needs to disconnect the normal feed to the direction indicator switch and flasher unit, and at the same time connect an always-live feed via the hazard flasher unit to three independent circuits - both left and right flasher circuits, and its own warning bulb. It has 8 terminals, which in my book makes it a complex switch.
