Seeing the comment about the flat battery I went out and tried my P4 SS. It was a bit groggy at first (like the driver) but soon burst into life. The car has not been driven for about a month.
I plugged the 11 year old battery conditioner into the 12 V socket and after about 18 hours the red has turned to green. I would therefore assume the socket is okay, so you might have a problem, or the charger is faulty.
