Hi MavisTheMorgan,

Depending on how much night driving you want to do you can easily swap in 7" LED light units, the are generally self contained units and in effect plug and play! Cheap options can work quite well but probably won't have a B.S standard DOT marking so could fail the MOT. If you don't night drive much they are a good option, just refit the halogen units for MOT time. If a more permanent option is required then do your searches, prices will range from £250-500 Whereas the cheapies start at around £60.

Bulb upgrades, Firstly bulbs degrade and if you do a straight replacement you will notice an improvement. I have in the past bought and fitted highly praised super bright bulbs and yes they are definitely better but I have found they fail unpredictably both in my Morgan and in a defender too. Perhaps its the crashing ride of these vehicles, Are they more fragile, filament wise than tungsten? Also if changing standard type bulbs don't go for the higher wattage options as they will damage your wiring and switching.

So in conclusion; If you go with say nitebreakers I'd suggest buying 3 units as when one fails when out you can change it. If you go with an LED option have a look at Cain's offering at Wolf Performance. A fair price for what will be a good light. But can I suggest the first thing you do is check your beam alignment.

Burning Rubber! Well I'm afraid they all have a bit of an engine/hot smell inside! But, check your seal around the top of the heater box, the foam that seals against the bonnet top halves when closed. This seal helps prevent engine bay smells and heat from entering the inside of the car. Open one side and check the closed side then the reverse. If the seal here is good the cockpit contamination is usually acceptable so check this first! The seal needs to be compressed as when the car is driving there is bounce in the soft thin skinned bonnets and although on checking it may seem that a seal is made it may not be good enough! I have seen many a classic with replaced seals that don't even touch the bonnet by up to 10mm of gap or in such repair as to be frankly useless. You may be able to source a replacement but just make your own out of closed cell foam.
