Ear protectors were mandatory at work and as the boss I had to be seen to be following the rules. But unlike the rest of the safety gear I found the over the ear types to be really distracting and possibly dangerous. They were very effective to the point whereby you couldnt hear danger approaching. And the silence itself was distracting.
For riding a motorbike, I bought moulded ear plugs and they are much better. If you wish they can be fitted with little speakers that can connect to a sound source via bluetooth or left with a small hole to allow some sound through. Comfortable enough to sleep in for example on the boat.
