Yes, Chrome plating is ridiculously expensive. Unless you are having to do this for authentic refurbishment its far better to look for an alternative solution. These plating companies are ripping the likes of us off for these small items that they just add onto a dip full of many customer parts. Watch the likes of Wheeler dealers when they tell mike how much it'll cost and he replies "That's very reasonable for two bumpers and a grill, £200 I'm having some of that"! Yeh! it's not what we get charged mate!
Powder coating is really only painting and without the prep that a normal paint finish would entail...... it covers a multitude of sins but is no more durable than a paint finish, worse in fact if the surface integrity is damaged. Who wouldn't agree that Dinko made exactly the right choice for a recent MOG? In my opinion its the choice id make every time!
