Since now I could not drive the Plus4SS in a real sporty manner. I avoided my beloved Eifel twisty B-roads because they are all salted (Nürburgring area, just 80 km from Cologne). So I drove in the flat and warmer region between Cologne and Maastricht where I made my first 1.400 km. That means no narrow curves. In addition the grip is not so good when driving at ca. 8 degree Celsius.
But instantly I was overwhelmed by the extraordinary balance this car delivers. That was my main reason to change the cars. And braking is very good as well due to the lesser weight of the Plus4SS. The Plus4SS offers enough of power. The acceleration is more even, from 3.500 up to 7.000 rpm. The Roadster offers more punch between 3.000 and 5.500 rpm but higher than 5.500 the engine feels corded up.
If you like to cruise in a very relaxing manner, the Roadster is a really good choice. Within it´s power- resp. rev range it is very relaxing to drive. You always have the feel of good reserves. The 4inline Plus4SS is a very sporty animal. It likes to rev. You will be encouraged by her to drive in a much more sporty way. But on the other hand I love it so much to chug with the Plus4SS which is also very enjoyable. TBH I like it more to chug with her than with the Roadster. The only difference is you have to shift a gear down if you need more power to overtake. If I have to compare the performance of power, it´s not so much a difference.
The PLus4SS is louder but I like the sound very much. Between 2.500 and 3.000 it´s amazing which snorkeling sound the throttle bodies deliver. Between 3.000 and 5.000 rpm the sound is dominated by the exhaust. 5.000 to 7.000 plus the throttle bodies howl in a manner I knew only from Caterhams before. Very classy.
To sum up, the most important point for me is that the Plus4SS does not tend to be nose heavy. But you will not notice this so much with the Roadster if your style of driving is a more relaxed one.
The Plus4SS is a very very "round" complete Trad.
