Right, and I'm planning on mounting the soft Malle luggage on both sides. There is a strap down for the rear which I could use with a custom tire cover for UV protection. The arrangement would include a thick pad to protect the paint, which is going to get protective film and ceramic coating. I think that might work ok-- for touring. If I'm staying near Austin, no need. I'll just call the guy.
I broke down in a pre-war car once, that had a side mount. You should have seen the reaction of the AAA guys that showed up. But they helped me jack up the car and install the side mount which got me home. I eventually had all new wheels made in England at no small expense.
The moral of the story is that I really like the pre-war vibe, but lots of headaches- thus a newish car that gives you the visceral quality of the vintage stuff with fewer headaches.
I know Morgan keeps up the tradition, though, as I am learning.... smile
