How times change, Sue was having her rear bumper repaired on her Mercedes C AMG Coupe the other day ( someone hit it whilst parked and just scarpered) and the painter was ex Mercedes main dealer so Mercedes. thru and thru and he was bitching about the amount of Renault parts now in a Mercedes, and that the quality wasn't there any more. As a result of this post I checked where Uk bound Mercedes C class are now built and it wasn't Germany they are primarily assembled at the East London plant in South Africa, which is the global hub for right-hand-drive C-Class production. How times change.
I remember the days when Mercedes Germany used to send RHD flat packs to be assembled in South Africa just for the African market and the very last RHD W124 saloons sold in the UK long after the German production shut down, came from South Africa with a very unusual specification compared to the normal UK spec.
