Pitts do have dangers thus associated other than water or crud build up, thus any time they are mentioned I feel it might just be worth pointing out of one danger relative to removing a petrol tank using a pit in a home garage, I will cut the sad story short as I have typed of it in TM previously. Yeah, I suspect the mention of petrol ends in explosion or fire, but that was not the case, it was the petrol fumes that displaced the oxygen and caused death by asphyxiation...So best be careful relative to the likes of even LPG finding it`s way into and building up and lying in wait within in a pit.
I suspect pit should best be looked upon as a confined space as per H&S advice.... Types he who has knowingly taken more risks than most sane folk would ever contemplate as worth chancing..!
