Luddite, I thought that if you can prove an earlier manufactured date than the registration date then the Historic classification would be based on that earlier date.
Maybe worth checking
You can, I know someone who owned an import that sat for a least a year unsold, but he could prove from factory records the prior to UK registration, actual build date
Thanks for the update, much appreciated. I have a plasticised chassis record supplied by the MMC with the chassis and engine number original specification and the date it left the factory being Nov 85.
Looks like there may be a degree of luck involved re PO staff understanding of the regs, though I guess it is not something they deal with regularly..
