๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜‚ Good point Bruce! I gather you've had experience! Did your filler plug seize? Tell us more. Never happened to me but I am careful with torquing, since the early days when I stripped and broke everything I touched. (wryly) I finally learned that if it is not something is not tightened sufficiently, it can always be tightened more while overtightening has far more severe consequences. pale

No that won't help Laurie frown2 Laurie's problem is one of ACCESS, not which tool to use. Your torx tool won't reach the plug any better than an Allen key. [b ]Why not show Talk Morgan one next to an Allen key?[/b] Of course, even vice-grips would be better with the earlier square filler plug in a case of bad access. BTW are you suggesting you WOULD NOT cut the missing access panel? It might interest you to know that my article on such things comes from myself but with images from prominent dealers, pictures from their own Morgans. https://www.gomog.com/allmorgan/GearCoverTweak.html These gearbox covers are exceedingly silly..badly designed and a result of design history gone astray.

I am certainly not an automobile "engineer", even in the British sense of the word. I leave such things to you fellows. I am merely a Morgan amateur owner who does his own work (not much choice for most moggers in the world). I have done this plug with an Allen key so many times..and so have amateur others.(now 7 more and counting since your first post on this subject). If you want me to accept your expert advice and that will relax you..I will do so, while quietly continuing as experience dictates and without wasting more time once every 2-3 years. If someone wants to end this discussion as it relates to their R380 Morgan, merely buy the earlier ยฃ3 LT77 filler plug as I suggest above? And I am telling you that an Allen key has worked for me many time on three R380 Mogs for the last 25 years. If I followed your advice I would still be roadside in Belgium. PLEASE test the Allen key so we can end this.

BTW, from a overall perception, you make a extremely valuable observation. Amateur Morgan owners are not professional engineers. they do not often possess a fully equipped professional garage (10s of 1000s in tools) with a choice of lifts. I certainly don't. And Craig does not own a R380? That certainly doesn't make his comments any less valuable. It merely limits Craig's experience with these models. (shrug) Everyone's comments are valuable, especially the people who ask questions, the shy ones. They have the best questions and wrongly hesitate to ask them. Yet I have found that professionals, in any field, are often restricted by their training. Amateur eMog was often able to assist the Factory and help in development. Professionals do things one way. Try that roadside 60km from Brindisi.๐Ÿ˜‚ Amateurs merely look for things that work that they have on hand. That is called free thinking. And after all, WE drive the cars. BTW I communicate with Morgan professionals daily. Love them. I am thrilled at the prices they can now charge. We all took so much advantage of them for so long!

Actually, eMog had MANY multiples of the traffic of this forum or all forums put together. It was too much for me. I had to close it. I admire Simon.

I gather you feel you feel that the successful use of an Allen key or the earlier LT77 plug is heretical blasphemy. notworthy I just care that something works and causes no damage I will make you a deal. I will When back in Canada, I will buy the correct TORX tool on the condition that you try an Allen key. (It won't bite you) Takes only a second. innocent.

I second that!

Thank you for your contribution to this thread.

Lorne

P.S. +8 Rich? Which dealers or shops to you and Craig work with?

I have never had a dealer do any work on my car as I am a profesional engineer and like the reassurance that comes with that and will certainly not be bodging around my R380 with an Allen key.

Craig of course comes with all his own valid opinions having owned and run the most pristine 4/4 Sport ever,
Henry and team helped Craig on his journey to greatness.

P.S. Absolutely WRONG about access for Laurie and the use of the cranked TORX55 as that is all I use on my own Plus 8 annualy, oil is cheap .
