At another place in the M3W, on the chassis tube that my left knee rubs against (LHD car), I have padded the tube with closed cell plumbing heat insulation for 22 mm copper pipe, slit lengthwise. This has stopped my knee from getting bruised. However I think that may be too soft for chassis to body gap as in this thread.
