I had always thought that the option which replaces the lower spring clamping plate was surely the best but on talking with Cain he quite correctly pointed out that the spring clamp version does not effect spring function as at the point of the spring clamp there is no interleaf movement as the axle mount location forms a fixed point for the spring leaves. The pan hard rod clamp is mounted so close to the this point that the same is true.
In fact there is also one other further benefit in that if it does have any stiffening effect to the forward leaves it can only help to reduce tramping and as MMC only ever fit one anti tramp bar then all should be well! But it is an easier fit and saves fiddling with the axle mounting point and understanding chassis clearance from the U bolt clearance. As an engineer I was totally convinced that the spring hanger was the way to go but glad I had been given a true account of both options and their faults and advantages.
Simply.... there is a forward elemental spring function and the same to the rear.
