From a very dull memory, Of the two switches I thought one had it`s internal contacts Normally Closed (NC) and the contacts other switch mounted alongside were Normally Open (NO) although both switches are externally identical...?

I just googled it.
Pedal at rest: The plunger is pressed in, so the contacts are open and there is no electrical continuity (open circuit). The brake lights are off.
Pedal depressed: The plunger is released, so the contacts close, creating a closed circuit. The brake lights turn on.
