I can understand that. I always think that if your first car was British (for those in America where they were not as common as the Firebirds, Mustangs, etc) then you either love or hate them. My first was a 1969 MGB; loved that car. But if you aren't comfortable working on them, you probable appreciated the mostly trouble-free American/Japanese stuff. Perfectly summed up in a small sign I saw referring to Roots cars (Sunbeam, etc) but applicable to most British makes:
