The sins of the fathers etc etc comes to mind.
My first secondary school was opened by Field Marshall Lord Montgomery, named after him, but the we went on a school trip down the Rhine in1959 and another the following year to Innsbruck and Salzburg . Reflecting back that was some gesture, possibly a brave one. Hand of friendship .
The Bible talks of sins of the father going for three or 4 generations but mercy can be achieved. Did not loose anyone in the war but I can see how it would and could effect some people even today.
Thankfully and hopefully we will all not be involved in another European war but things look a little bleak currently.
Heading to Germany in a few days and intend to stay in Landua so as to report my findings to another TMer who intends to go there.
You hide your tourism under a bushel (if that translates !) as we just love Germany…..
