i am not sure where we are going here, adjusting valve timing to cure PINKING !!!! if valve timing adjustment was required i think you would have a lot more issues than pinking, !!!!
It was a joke. I don't think that an engineering degree is needed to adjust the ignition timing. Anyone can do it, especially on an old non hi-tec engine on which trial and error often gives better results than going by the book!
