I have finally had time to check and thanks to petemog I located the powerpoint in the glovebox, now to choose a contraption.
Garmin seems to be very popular and I believe they have them with camera locations and road speed limits.
Plenty of tips on here, thanks chaps! Any recommendations for the best to buy in the UK that includes French mapping? Bud __________ 2003 - 4/4

I have a little Satnav It sits there in my car A Satnav is a driver's friend It tells you where you are. I have a little Satnav I've had it all my life It does more than the normal one My Satnav is my wife. It gives me full instructions On exactly how to drive "It's thirty miles an hour" it says "And you're doing thirty five". It tells me when to stop and start And when to use the brake And tells me that it's never ever Safe to overtake. It tells me when a light is red And when it goes to green It seems to know instinctively Just when to intervene. It lists the vehicles just in front It lists those to the rear And taking this into account It specifies my gear. I'm sure no other driver Has so helpful a device For when we leave and lock the car It still gives its advice. It fills me up with counselling Each journey's pretty fraught So why don't I exchange it And get a quieter sort?

Old but funny and very worth the read:
Dear Tech Support:
Last year I upgraded from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0. I soon noticed that the new program began unexpected child processing that took up a lot of space and valuable resources. In addition, Wife 1.0 installed itself into all other programs and now monitors all other system activity. Applications such as Poker Night 10.3, Football 5.0, Hunting and Fishing 7.5, and Racing 3.6 I can't seem to keep Wife 1.0 in the background while attempting to run my favorite applications. I'm thinking about going back to Girlfriend 7.0, but the uninstall doesn't work on Wife 1.0. Please help!
Thanks,
A Troubled User. ______________________________________
REPLY: Dear Troubled User:
This is a very common problem that men complain about.
Many people upgrade from Girlfriend 7.0 to Wife 1.0, thinking that it is just a Utilities and Entertainment program. Wife 1.0 is an OPERATING SYSTEM and is designed by its Creator to run EVERYTHING!!! It is also impossible to delete Wife 1.0 and to return to Girlfriend 7.0. It is impossible to uninstall, or purge the program files from the system once installed.
You cannot go back to Girlfriend 7.0 because Wife 1.0 is designed to not allow this. Look in your Wife 1.0 manual under Warnings- Alimony-Child Support. I recommend that you keep Wife 1.0 and work on improving the situation. I suggest installing the background application "Yes Dear" to alleviate software augmentation.
The best course of action is to enter the command C:\APOLOGIZE because ultimately you will have to give the APOLOGIZE command before the system will return to normal anyway.
Wife 1.0 is a great program, but it tends to be very high maintenance. Wife 1.0 comes with several support programs, such as Clean and Sweep 3.0, Cook It 1.5 and Do Bills 4.2. However, be very careful how you use these programs. Improper use will cause the system to launch the program Nag Nag 9.5. Once this happens, the only way to improve the performance of Wife 1.0 is to purchase additional software. I recommend Flowers 2.1 and Diamonds 5.0!
WARNING!!! DO NOT, under any circumstances, install Secretary With Short Skirt 3.3. This application is not supported by Wife 1.0 and will cause irreversible damage to the operating system.
Best of luck, Tech Support

My Garmin is starting to play up: now I am approaching the Rhine it has effected a silly German accent and is making impertinent suggestions. Should I dump it?

Reading this thread, with great interest, I am beginning to wonder if I am the only one who still uses maps, rather than a Satnav? Should I buy one, or should I remain happily stuck in the past? Recommendations please. Bud Depends how good your memory is. I bought a satnav for the bike when I found that by the time I had put the map away, put my gloves back on, started the bike up and kicked up the sidestand, I had forgotten the directions I had just read off the map! Thats age for you. __________ 2003 - 4/4

I still use a good road atlas and OS maps. The SatNav is a backup for when SatNag gets lost, forgets to turn map upside down etc. or has been left behind!

SatNav very good at getting you there, however it can't re-focus once theres a road block.
I keep the Map under the seat just incase.
