Hi! In another tread I said the Smart was snappier in acceleration than the 4/4. That is wrong! The last week I have driven the 4/4 in higher revs, up to 6000 rpm. At 4500 there is a very strong acceleration and it continues up to 6000 in low gears. I now have 8000 km (5000 miles) on the clock and I the Sigma i running better and better. The 5:th gear I only use in Highways and I have no complains about the gearbox. //Bosse

Does any one have real life figures for the 50 - 70 mph in the gears. I note the new hot mini being quoted as 6 seconds in fifth. I expect that the vehicle as tested would be carrying a minimal fuel load etc.

Bear in mind that the MINI has quite a potent engine and short gearing.
50 to 70 in third is easy overtaking territory in one.

Of interest my car is a sept. 2011 delivery. Does anyone know which gear box it would have as looking at it seems not to help. Why; well over 5000 miles now & engine definately free'er BUT gear shift still very tight/stiff, sometimes won't go into 1st & change up in 2nd to 3rd at 6500rpm is slow. Basically all gears need a tug whith a bit of a clunk engaging. I was wondering if at 6000 mile service, winging about the gear box would get anything sorted. Bob:) 4/4 1600 sigma

Hi IcePack, my plus 4 was early Sept 2011 delivery and I was told it had the MX5 gearbox. I have not looked underneath to verify.

Wirewheel Thanks for reply. That was what I was told to expect by the dealer.salesperson. But having asked a fitter who was servicing it said he couldn't tell by looking. This sight also seems to think the MX gearboxes started from feb12 hence my query. Is yours like mine a bit of a b'gr to shift?

No, I would say mine is smooth. It is at the factory for an annual service on Monday, I will ask them to tell me. Will keep you updated.

That sounds like the clutch is not releasing properly...
