Does anyone know what the torque figures should be for the wheel nuts on my 2012 plus 4. Asked the dealer and he reckoned a good whack with the hammer on the spanner is quite sufficient
Not really satisfactory as it will damage the chrome with the slight looseness of the spanner on the nut and even more so I have noticed the wheels have "made in India" on them, which having had to work on various Indian made things in the past says varying quality of machining.

Hi Swissmog
After Frank 4x4s welcome at Ledgerwoods during his round the coast trip earlier this year, I had a look at the Ledgerwoods website out of interest and found a
wheel nut removal tool on their site.
I bought a wheel nut remover from Ledgerwoods. It is a bit pricey however no danger of damaging the car bodywork or wheel nut. Checkout their website, or give them a call.
I was advised that the wheel nuts need to be torqued to 280NM, or to use a 2 foot / 600mm breaker bar to give the right tightness.

To find it on the Ledgerwoods website, look under "our services" unders specialist in house engineering and it is called a Wheel tool.
It is effectively a large 1/2 inch drive socket head.

Like Wirewheel, I'm a fan of the Ledgerwood tool which is nicely engineered and removes the worry of damage both to the nut and the adjacent paintwork! For a less expensive option I quite like the look of the Mulfab version. ( www.mulfab.co.uk)

Many thanks for the replies, I had already made a socket similar to the pics, but not quite as posh looking, but now feel more comfortable with a torque rate for the nuts and less damage to the chrome.

Folded silk was always great for protecting surfaces. Occasionally stories as to source were .. humorous to say least - but it wasn't unusual to see a square of silk in a tool kit on a bike for both protecting the surface of the nut and/ or filling the fissure of a slightly loose fit.
