Some photos of Henry and morgans attending First flight of Mosquito, including two "new" 3 wheelers and 3 "old" 3 wheelers.
This was on Saturday. 21 morgans attended amongst possibly 200+ british cars. Also flying were several other De Haviland planes. There are a few videos on you tube of the mosquito on fly past alone and with a spitfire and a venom.
Very well patronised day, lots more attended than was originally expected!

Show cars still queuing to get in,in the background.
New and old 3 wheelers

Mosquito presented to veterans before flight

Only 2nd day of flying after 7 years construction! Fantastic. Beautiful sounding twin merlins

I believe it is. The one in the UK was crashed and totally written off some years ago in a very unfortunate accident at a Manchester Air Show.

However, due to my address, I saw the UK one flying several times as I live close to the Mosquito Aircraft Museum, and was on the flightpath to BAE Hatfield where it was often kept.

You are right about the noise, on final approach it looked/sounded as if the noise was holding it in the air and aerodynamics had little to do with it.

Very glad the project has come to fruition.

Thanks for that....a wonderful plane. The one that crashed in the UK flew over my place a view times some years ago. You knew what I was before it came into view.....wonderful sound.

Geoffrey de Havilland was a friend and neighbour of my Great Grandmother at Crux Easton near Newbury. I have a signed photograph that he sent to my 6 year old father as a christmas present in 1934 of Grosvenor House the record breaking de Havilland Comet (no, not that one) which set a record of 2 days 4 hours from England to Australia in October 1934. Much of the mosquito's design was based on the Comet

On the back of the frame is the letter which accompanied the photo

(apologies for the quality - I just snapped them with my iphone as I didn't really want to take the 'photo out of the frame)

Incidentally, that house ended up being bought by Oswald Moseley. In the 1960's when my great Grandmother was building a cottage in Kintbury to be near my Grandmother the builder said he could build it in salvaged bricks from a house he was demolishing at Crux Easton (maybe it's black shirted former occupier was putting off potential buyers). You've guessed it - she built her new house from the bricks of the old one & it was named Crux Cottage.
