Ahhhggg.....

My three wheeler won't start! I can hear the tappets turning (Machine gubn noise). But its not starting up.

I rang the dealer and they said it could be the battery... But I did a fair few miles yesterday, so it should be charged.

Does anyone knwo the number of Morgan rescue, I was assured I was covered by the dealer. but I was not passed any info and the guys at the gargage don't know.

I am gutted.

Don't know number of Morgan Rescue, but sympathies. Hopefully somebody who does know will be along soon.

I guess with modern fuel injected engines and electronic ignition, it's harder to diagnose the problem without test gear.

When my 1930 three wheeler starter motor packed up at a filling station, it was pretty easy to get a passer-by to give the needed push.

The geared starter in Woodstock was so good that if the battery was too flat for the electronic ignition to work, the engine would still turn over. I've known new car batteries to not have much charge and if you have a sensible battery voltage sensing charger, put the car on charge. Might still need the services of a professional but at least you've helped them by having a fully charged battery by the time they look into it.

I have Morgan Rescue attached to my insurance arranged through Headley. Assuming its the same the 24 hour rescue number is 0800 7319834 or 01277 720785.

Sincerely hope this helps - not a great "start"

Regards, and good luck

The problem is that the battery is not charging. (what does the job of the altenator is not doing its job).

So as the car is running the battery is losing charge rather than holding it.....

behind the battery (you need to take the battery away)
is the "earth"
that must be tight very err tightly (sorry, not native English)

had to fix that on my Stelvio/Modena-trip

Can't be the battery if the starter motor is turning the motor over. More likely a small electronic component has failed. There are likely to be several relays and also possibly a cutout in case of a very unlikely roll over.

I suspect the 'tappet' noise Mike refers to is the starter solenoid activating, then dropping out as it connects the starter motor.

Battery not charging could be due to several faults, the simplest being poor connections to the battery / chassis. It could be the alternator, but I suspect more likely (if not a loose connection) is the separate regulator.

Hope it gets fixed soon Mike.
