As I need new Kingpins (14,500 miles). Now's the time to have remote greasing fitted. I know Robbie did this a while back and I was wondering how the set up has been to live with.Any comments to help me finally decide would be helpful as I'm getting increasingly arthritic.
Does it make life easier or is there still a lot of crawling around to check for excess? Can you gauge how many shots are needed?
Cheers in advance.

Love them, been on couple of months, as the weather has been dermot this summer, and she's my daily drive. pull in to the garage lift bonnet and grease every time for rain and in shine every two days. but my daily is about 120miles on motorway.
If I'm playing on a Rally bumpy roads/ gravel, lunch and evening.
Fit gators raps to spring save cleaning!!

Fitted my Remote Greasing Set just before my Round Coast trip. Made life so easy, greasing every 1000 (5days). With My Tecalemit Lever Pump Gun I use 4 pumps for the lower and 2 pumps for the upper (Someone here suggested that rate.)

I also have Top and Bottom Gaitors fitted . Mine are not secured with clips so I do need to check each time and wipe the bottom edge of the Lower One to avoid any transmitting to the Brake Disc. Only takes a minute. Top one is always clean.

Gaitor removed after two years.

New Gaitor Fitted

Top Gaitor - Can just see some old Grease from below the Bearing base.

Thanks chaps. Looks like a good idea, been thinking so for ages. Where did you get the gaiters?
Cheers

Made them myself on sewing machine from WaterProof Polyester Cloth (Two Layers) and Non Adhesive Velcro Strip (no tacky Glue).

The Bottom Ones are similar (my modification) to the DaveW Design (Dave may supply a set in his Mohair Hood Fabric if you send him a PM request)and the Top Ones My Own.

My Bottom Gaitor Spec

My Upper Gaitor Spec.

I hope this helps.

When greasing I thought I had to have the wheels hanging free with no load on them. Is that wrong?

If the load is taken off the stub axle it will give better penetration of grease where the wear is focused. This is the outer face of the kingpin/upper bush contact area, and the inner face of the kingpin/lower bush.
I have four sets of rebound spring gaiters in stock, if anyone would like to PM me.
Frank is spot on about the Velcro. I use adhesive Velcro for the initial location on the mohair, but as MrsW stitches it in place, the glue picks up on the needle, so it has to be cleaned often while she's doing this.

Dave as a satisfied customer I must confirm these are the Rolls Royce of gaiters.
My car will be spolied once they are fitted. That was planned today but a 5 mile stroll round the Chilterns in the sun got in the way.

Sunday is Mogs at Brooklands so it will be next week when I fit them.
cheers drive
