I have been washing the car this morning and whilst doing so note that the lower portion of my sidescreen is full of water.

This must have occurred over the last week or so, as thats is when I last cleaned it. We have had some epic rain here in the north east over the last few weeks (even noah would have been reaching for his mae west!) so I suppose it has leaked in somewhere.

My next job it to try to empty it and then dry it out. squeezing the water around reveals a pin prick hole on the trailing edge of the screen but I refuse to believe this is the source, I guess it must be seeping in from the top, where the window frame joins the solid part.

I would be grateful for any tips from anyone who has dealt with this issue already

Are your screens Mohair ( I think not ) the seam along the top is it sealed or is there a fine slit to let the water in check both side's. Also have they got a bit sponge in the bottom as padding against the door . Also check the seam around the edge from front to rear could be a break in it and the screw hole's on the bar's that hold them on to the door .

you are right my screens are vinyl, I have managed to get the majority of the water out, the vinyl seems. I cans see any significant splits around the visible edges, apart from the 5 mm split through which I have drained it, So I guess the moisture got in via the top, I guess.
What is the screen made of under the vinyl? I am concerned that it will be damp

Certainly the later cars have them made in alloy.

I have never seen the stuff under the vinyl but think it could be thin plywood or thin hardboard . Why not take the bottom bit apart and fill it with a bit water what goes in will go out you may find a hole , if not then its the top next to the window .
