The leather stitched part which holds the elasticated hoop will pass through the chrome strap hole but the first time takes some perseverance. I had the same problem with my Plus 8 and would have given up except that when I took delivery of the car the case and straps were already installed. My problem was getting them off! They had obviously gone on so I thought they must come off. With a lot of patience, some washing up liquid and a squashed thumb nail I eventually succeeded.
The more I use the straps the easier it has become to install and remove them.
If you'd rather the straps passed through the guide then I recommend that you have another go, however, if you're prone to the occasional expletive then try the first attempt away from the childrens' earshot.
.They don't stretch as much as ordinary bungees, but they make the load really secure.
A word of caution - Never use standard Bungees with a Metal Suitcase. An R100 friend from Germany thanks his severly damaged headrest from preventing his Bungee held (sharp edged) metal suitcase from causing a severe head injury from behind.
He thought the damage was caused by the truck involved in the accident but found later that the Bungees had allowed the suitcase to catapult forward and return to their original position unnoticed.
Studying the two photos from Numog and the Metal Suitcase obscuring the rear view, suggests that a re design of the traditional Spare Wheel Rack is needed to become as low as the perfect +4 Rack.
I wonder who makes both of these items? They need to get (be put) together.
While I use bungees to hold case etc. to my rack, you might also have noticed that there is a non-stretch strap also in use - experience of kit bungeed to roofracks has made me do that...

I have a stroke of luck as there is a female sadler about 25 miles away and she will have a go at anything been doing it for years so is good at her job , Just a pig of a place to find as its up a mud track in the middle of nowhere .
@ Frank: my (widely modified from a MMC item / custom made) "Plus 4 version" made a unobstructed view back over the top of the suitcase an easy task - the (yet factory-standard, despite the rack sitting a lot lower on the narrow 4/4-sopare wheel)"Roadster version" isn´t THAT unobstructed, but due to the angle from which the pic was taken things sem worse then they are - one CAN see over the case... at least with top down & my height (i´m some 6,3 feet tall)
It doesn´t matter how fast it becomes, but how it becomes fast. 2015 Roadster 3.7
@ Neil: it´s a RIMOWA Classic Flight Case (mind: NOT watertight without modifications!!), which -imho- matches the vintage & classic looks of a Morgan trad in an appropriate way... (at least for a modern suitcase! TheI´m sure there are also older versions without "wheels" etc. omn offer in used condition somewhere...)

Hello, this thread is bit older but maybe my input is also welcome. For my trip in June I used an older Rimowa (used from ebay) with a bespoken cover. The cloth is "Daimler Benz Sonnenland" quality. It was made by a retired upholsterer (175€). We had some bigger rain showers and it was complete dry inside. The straps were made by a saddler nearby in horse-gear leather (80€). Today I would order longer straps but the quality is very fine. The cable that secures the suitcase is intended for bikes (1,8m long) but quite cheap (approx 10€). The lock is a waterproofed quality (15€).
