If i may add a comment too: on my 2009 Plus 4 bird droppings & fuel spillings did horrifying things to the paint surface scared

Ive been able to polish the most of it off ranting, but.... if you KNOW where those desasters took place, you could even detect the spots on the paint still...

This is why i ordered an additional coat of clear laquer on my current Roadster sherlock. The factory now (!!) uses the latest ppg stuff, including some "cera-coating" (incorporating small ceramic parts) as clear finish.
Applied properly (!!!), it make s a superbe paint surface - much more durable and a lot less vulnerable. thumbs

One of my best investments when ordering my car - imho only, of course... toff

It doesn´t matter how fast it becomes, but how it becomes fast. laugh2

its already on Mercedes, self healing clear coat

Advances in resin technology have enabled the Standox research and development labs to develop a clearcoat that has the ability to repair itself when scratched.

This means that when tiny scratches occur in the clearcoat surface during automatic car washing for example, the clearcoat can repair itself by “reflowing” and effectively filling in the minor gaps caused by the bristles.

Due to the outstanding effects achieved by this new technology, most of the major motor manufacturers are now using it to coat the luxury end of their product ranges

BIRD DROPPINGS
CAUSE
• Acids present in bird droppings can
penetrate the paint film and cause
varying problems ranging from mild
staining to penetration through to
the Zinc layer

PREVENTION
Remove droppings as soon as possible
• Protect finish with high quality wax
polish (frequently)
• Avoid parking under trees

REMEDY
Cover with wet paper towel and leave
for a few minutes
• Remove paper and wipe away dropping,
and allow to dry
• Stanining can be removed by polishing
local area, or refinishing if damage is
more severe

Spider crap is my main gripe. I always thought it was an urban myth until I started seeing it for real. Tiny white blobs like Tippex, sometimes with a black dot in the middle. No bigger than a pin head. Wipes off with a damp cloth.
