A week and a bit into a new M3W, and I had a go in my beloved Aero S3 yesterday having spent most of the available time over this period in the new motorised massage tub.
Now don't get me wrong I love the M3W and it is fun, fun, fun. But cheap it is not, and it has a few things to sort out even though mine is latest spec!! I have a reasonable project ahead to get the little wonder into proper shape, just as when I picked up the Aero.
But getting in the Aero 8 is a step into total luxury after the M3W. Doors, a windscreen, heater, air-con - wow! And so much room, comfy and supportive seats, the extraordinary engine, fantastically tractable and smoo-oothe drivetrain, and great driving position. I can't tell you how simply wonderful the Aero felt after the M3W - a perfect marriage of old-school essentials and feel combined with sufficient modern gizmos and comfort. So much grip and so relaxing to drive.
The overall conclusion was how different they are and how well they complement each other, and I'm a lucky chap to have these distant cousins (and my old Renault GTA too), but if you're being tempted to sell up and buy a M3W based on Press comments make no mistake the Aero is a dramatically better sports car than the M3W in almost all respects. It still has the individuality, the looks, the positive effect on other motorists and road users and is a great drive. Mine might be well set-up but I even really like the steering. The ride is pretty sumptuous after the M3W too. And a glovebox, boot and radio - lovely...
So thank goodness I kept the Aero. And don't believe what the Press say about Aeros (including Plus 8s and Coupes) at the moment - they will get the message one day again as a few have in the past.
The Aeros (including Plus 8) are still the best driving Morgans that have ever been made by a country mile (imho). I've never missed my Porsche C2S since swapping for the Aero 8.
Now time to get in the 3 wheeled bath-tub again and run it in a bit more. Oooh, that's quite fun too!! But it still ain't no Aero 8.

And to think you discussed selling your Aero to me ... you made the right decision keeping the 8. I found a cracking series 3 and for me it has been the perfect European touring car.

TRMAN - I was thinking about that as I wrote the piece. Really pleased you found a nice S3 (in my opinion the best of the bunch as an all rounder).

Having swopped my Roadster for a S1 Aero, I was interested in your observations. For some inexplicaple reason if a car has a Morgan badge on it I love it. This seams to be regardless of ride, performance, appearance or practicality. However, having tasted the forbidden fruit of "Aeroing", there will be no turning back. But like you, I aspire to own both, so I can dip into all the sensations of Morganeering.

Having swopped my Roadster for a S1 Aero, I was interested in your observations. For some inexplicaple reason if a car has a Morgan badge on it I love it. This seams to be regardless of ride, performance, appearance or practicality. However, having tasted the forbidden fruit of "Aeroing", there will be no turning back. But like you, I aspire to own both, so I can dip into all the sensations of Morganeering. I have driven the M3W and loved it...Does this mean I have to buy the M3W now to make up the set....

Just come back from a blast in the M3W (well - a gentle-ish blast because it only has 288 miles on it...) and it is great fun.
An Aero and a 3W do make a fantastic complementary package, and so far I can safely say they are so different that you will not be able to use one to replace the other!
So both it is then. Perhaps this need to turn 1 car into 2 is exactly what Charles M wants us all to do - and it should help Britain shoot out of recession too.
