Why is it better for manhole covers to be round rather than square?

Because a round one can't fall down the manhole.

Oldie but a gud'un smile

A classic case of misdirection that seems logical. The guys paid $27 MINUS the $2 (equals $25) the bellboy kept and the hotel received $25 after giving back $5 ($3 to the clients and $2 to the bellboy) from the original $30 paid. Every $ is accounted for.

PS Where is this hotel that has a triple for $25, and does that include breakfast?

Here’s another famous one … don’t Google if you don’t know it!

You have reached the final of the TV Game Show Car or Goat (congratulations!)

You are presented with three doors. All you have to do is choose a door to open and you win whatever is behind it.

Hidden behind one of the doors is the star prize, a car.
Behind each of the other two is a goat!

You tell the host which door you want to open. The host (who knows where the prize is) doesn't open your chosen door yet but instead opens one of the other two. Behind it is a goat.

There are now two doors left, the one you originally chose and one you didn't. The host gives you the chance to change your mind.

Should you:
1. Stick with your original choice.
2. Change your mind and choose to open the other door.
3. Do what you like, it doesn't matter.

Not being a modern car fan, I'd rather have the goat anyway - might keep parts of the garden under better control laugh2

We have a game show here in Italy called Affari tuoi that involves 20 boxes with amounts of money up to €500,000. At the end the competitor has his own box, if he has not already swapped it, and there is one other unopened box. At this point a swap is often offered. I have often wondered what would be the best choice.

it must have to do with percentages, ie 33% less chance of loosing once one door has been open, if he doesnt open the door you chose it must be the remaining door !!!! i think

I think the odds change. At the first choice the odds are 1:3 but at second choice the odds for the first chosen door remain 1:3 but the odds for the remaining door are 1:2. You have a better chance by accepting the swap. I can't quite work out the maths but I think swapping gives you 2 chances in 3 of winning.

Does this make sense?
