MonteZooma - not sure this link is still live but, if it is, many thanks for the guidance. The mirrors were a Christmas present so I couldn't get to play with them until today. Everything was as you described. I used a little Swarfega as the lubricant on the seals and stems and that worked well. The mirrors certainly look better and the rearward view on both sides is much improved. Thanks again, and HNY!

ok I know this is a revival of a VERY old thread so apologies.....I have just got some new mirrors and have the same grey plug to stop the rattling. I only see a screw to retain the mirror position, I don't see one that releases the stem from the base. I want to swap to round mirrors so need to remove the oval ones. Can someone help me with this? I see the groove in the grey plug through the retaining screw hole but not much else. Many thanks

My original mirrors had a small slotted plastic ring on the mirror rod. This ring seemed to get a little snagged, so I had to pull on the mirror with "some" force.
2005 4/4 1800ccm Duratec and a lot of HONDA CX500.......

Back the screw off (or remove) squirt a bit of WD40 around the stem & give the mirror stem a good twist & pull, it's usually reluctant due to corrosion sticking it together, then when its apart remove the grey plugs and clean everything up before re-assembly Sometimes if fitting new Round style mirrors the hole in the plug needs carefully reaming out with a sharp drill as they are slightly larger diameter stems
